Nowadays it is not enough for the owner of the goods to bring the cargo from one place to another. He needs the most advantageous delivery solution. This includes appliance of the different methods of transportation, forwarding, customs and other formalities, insurance, storage, representing the interests of the client and several other operations.  Generally this is called logistics. Latvia has old traditions in the field of transit and Latvian specialists are able to offer the most favourable solutions for any customer. There are still great opportunities to build new logistics and distribution parks.

The government strongly supports the creation of the logistics parks - where the creation of a new added value of goods and the creation of new jobs occurs. The best sites for new logistics parks are in the ports and major transit hubs, such as, Rezekne, Krustpils, Daugavpils and Jelgava.

The main direction of the activities are

  • deliveries to Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and a number of other CIS countries;
  • arrangement of goods according the specific requirements of Russia and other countries;
  • storing, sorting, assembling and processing the goods for the EU market.

In Latvia both - local and internationally recognized logistics companies are active in this field.

Generally, they are united in two professional associations:

  • Latvian Association of Freight Forwarders and Logistics (LAFF)
  • Latvian Logistics Association (LLA).

An extensive infrastructure of warehouses and logistic centres and services has been developed.

An essential complement to freight logistics is the assembling, packaging, handling and processing of the goods. These activities are close to resembling the industrial production, and the most important partner that provides the development of industrial parks and confederates the most important industrial parks is the Latvian Association of Industrial Parks.

National logistics promotion has defined the priority - the development of Latvia as a center of goods distribution and dissemination.
